The incumbent in this position is expected to work an average of 40 hours per week.
The Dental Assistant is a vital member of the dental health team. As a dental assistant, you will be responsible for a broad spectrum of duties, as described below.
Expanded Functions and Dental Radiography certifications
A Valid Florida driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation
Selected immunizations (MMWR Vol. 46/No.RR-18)
Participation in the direct deposit program within 30 days of employment as mandated per Florida Statute 110.113, 96-310, Laws of Florida
High school diploma or GED is a minimum education requirement.
Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
While under supervision of the dentist, assist the dentist in rendering chairside duties as required of four handed dentistry. Must be able to pass instruments to dentist during procedures as well as take and process dental X-rays. Lay out instruments and materials needed to treat each patient and make patients feel comfortable in the dental chair before and during treatment. During treatment, dental assistant keeps patients mouth dry by suctioning. Additional duties also include but are not limited to properly applying sealants, cavity liners varnishes and bases, preliminary charting of existing restorations and oral conditions, removing surgical dressings, placing or removing rubber dams, placing or removing temporary restorations with non-mechanical hand instruments, polishing amalgam restorations, application of topical fluorides, removing surgical dressings, taking impressions, developing and processing dental x-rays. Sterilizing instruments, cleaning and maintaining dental equipment and operatory room according to established OSHA and clinic guidelines. Keep a well-stocked operatory room with all necessary supplies and materials. Provide Oral Hygiene Instructions to clients in how to improve and maintain good oral health habits. Participate with maintaining dental supplies and order current. Inform supervisor of broken or items needing repair. Is available to work at each satellite clinics when needed.
Front Desk Duties
Dental Assistant will be capable of performing front desk duties as needed, this includes but is not limited to calling clients to confirm appointments, schedule clients, print clinic schedules, or data entry into HMS. Attends and participates in staff meetings, development or in-service trainings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES ESSENTIAL TO THE ROLE:
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to anticipate the needs of the dentist during procedures
Good hand and finger dexterity to perform tasks
Ability to properly use and maintain dental equipment, set up instrument trays, prepare patient, sterilize and disinfect instruments
Ability to document via dental charting
Ability to perform basic computer operations, such as typing
Ability to work independently
