Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is actively seeking an experienced Cyber Software Engineering Professional to fill a role that requires a broad array of knowledge and skills working with team members to support a Cyber Security program in Tampa, FL .

We're looking for a highly motivated individual with an impeccable work ethic and a strong ability to work in a collaborative fast-moving dynamic team environment. The primary team is located in Tampa, Florida with distributed team members embedded directly with the customer.

In this positon you will:

Successful candidates will participate in software requirements analysis, design, implementation, unit testing, integration, verification, documentation, configuration management and maintenance of software solutions for a broad range of applications with exposure to a variety of programs that provide critical solutions to US government agencies and the Department of Defense.

This position involves developing solutions to national security threats with products that may involve kernel development, reverse engineering or vulnerability research of network and communication systems. The position requires solid software development skills including a familiarity with scripting languages. The position also requires familiarity with operating system fundamentals, reverse engineering tools and techniques, and network configuration. Knowledge of computer networking, modern software development environments, embedded programming, and software configuration management tools is a plus.

Basic Qualifications:

• US Citizenship required and must have a Department of Defense Top Secret/SCI security clearance which was active in last 24 months

• Education/Experience: Nine (9) Years of experience with Bachelors in Science; Seven (7) Years with Masters; Four (4) Years with PhD / Four (4) years of additional experience can be substituted in lieu of college degree

• Must possess or be able to obtain DoD 8570 Certification for IAT Level II or higher within two (2) months of starting (GSEC, GICSP, SCCP, Security CE or CCNA-Security) (reference: for list of qualified certifications)

• The selected engineer will work with various multi-disciplined product development teams to develop software systems and tools, participate in technical reviews and provide customer support, programming techniques, and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems

• Ensures software standards are met. Familiar with software development lifecycle methodologies

• Analysis/modification of existing software

• Software development using languages such as C, Assembly, Python

• Generation of applicable documentation

• Analyzes and assesses infrastructures for potential vulnerabilities that may result from improper configurations, hardware or software flaws, or operational weaknesses

• Performs security monitoring, log analysis, and forensic analysis to detect security incidents and mount incident response

• Evaluates security components against their ability to resist threats in the deployed environment, evaluates configurations and implementation of firewalls, proxy servers, routers, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), wireless networks, etc., against policy requirements, industry best practices, and vendor recommendations

• Plans and integrates the installation of new or modified security hardware, operating systems, and software applications

• Perform computer network exploitation development: embedded reverse engineering, vulnerability research, and application development for software and embedded systems with a focus on Offensive Cyber Operations (OCO) and Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) activities

• Develops test plans and tests software security mechanisms for operational effectiveness and deployment readiness; develops test and evaluation reports

• When required, have the ability to work outside of normal working hours and weekends as needed to support the customer’s needs

• Be able to support infrequent CONUS travel to user locations for assistance

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• DoD 8570 Certification for IAT Level III

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field

• Experience in software development to include any of the following: kernel mode, embedded, command and control, web applications, network applications

• Familiarity with Assembly Languages (x86, x64, MIPS, PPC, or ARM)

• Experience developing software for multiple operating system environments

• OS Internals experience

• Development of lower level networking protocols such as IP, TCP, and UDP

• Understanding of return oriented programming (ROP) concepts and execution

• Ability to develop and implement shell code

• Ability to understand secure / insecure programming concepts (format string vulnerabilities, heap overflows, etc.)

• Familiarity with common source control tools (git, Mercurial, etc.) and automated build system workflows (Jenkins, Go, etc.)

• Experience with the Agile methodology

• Functional experience working with military / Department of Defense software development community

• Recent military experience or familiarity with DOD
